car dealers…best way to avoid….?

being weasled into a car that’s not as good as they’d like to make you think? My husband and I are looking for our first new car. We had our sights set on a Hyundai Accent, but after we got to the dealer they outright lied! They told us the car had an am/fm cd player equipped with 3 free months of satellite radio, when my husband looked inside it didn’t even have a radio! And they all played dumb, one of them saying “Oh it doesn’t? Well we can get you one but it won’t have satellite radio.” What is that? We plan to buy outright, pay in full. So at least we don’t have the car payment issue to deal with. But can you give me tips on how to find a good quality car without being led to believe it’s something it’s not? I know that I need to research first, but what if I forget something? All tips would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help :)

Do your homework before you enter any car dealership. If you check Consumer Reports they will give you unbiased reviews for new and used cars including performance, safety, reliability, and price. Consumer Reports also has a service to give you info on what exactly the dealer paid for the vehicle so you can negotiate up from from factory invoice instead of down from the sticker price. Never, never pay sticker price for any new car. Here is another hint. After you decide what kind of car you want, buy it from a large volume dealer, usually located in a larger metropolitan area. It’s worth the several thousand dollars you save to travel an hour or two to get your new car. Of course you can ask the local dealer if they will match or come close to the bigger dealer price. If they refuse, just walk out. Don’t pay any attention to the line “we can provide you with extra special service that you can’t get from the other dealer.” That’s a bunch of b***. There is no service department of any dealer that will do less for you than for anyone else. And there is nothing wrong with getting service (except for warranty work or recalls) from your local trusted garage.
